OVERVIEW
During the Great Depression, the US government did not have a comprehensive measure of output and income. In response, the Department of Commerce commissioned Simon Kuznets to develop a set of economic accounts. Out of his group's efforts was born the national income accounts, one of which, gross domestic product or GDP, is an essential indicator on the health of the economy. This infographic highlights the basics about GDP.
