FRB Professional Development Certificate

Each self-paced course in the FRB Professional Development Certificate program explores an economic topic and previews resources that can be used with students.

Registration for these courses is open and are completely self-paced. After all course activities have been completed participants are issued a professional development certificate. Courses vary in length so please refer to the course descriptions below for specifics on each course.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

This course will cover key content about gross domestic product (GDP), including what it measures, how it is measured, and how well it serves as an indicator of the health of an economy and the well-being of that economy’s population.  This course is an estimated 3 hours of lessons, readings & online programming.

This course will cover how GDP is used by individuals and government decisionmakers to observe changes in the economy and to formulate policy recommendations.  This course is an estimated 3 hours of lessons, readings & online programming.

This course will cover key content about inflation, including how it is measured, how it affects savers and borrowers, and why the Fed targets a low and stable inflation rate.  This course is an estimated 6 hours of lessons, readings & online programming.

This course will cover key content about unemployment, how it is measured, types of unemployment, and current unemployment data and trends.  This course is an estimated 4 hours of lessons, readings & online programming.

This course will cover key content about the structure and function of the Federal Reserve System.  This course is an estimated 4 hours of lessons, readings & online programming.

This course will explore the Fed conducts monetary policy to achieve the goals set for it by Congress -- price stability and maximum employment. Special attention is paid to the new tools of monetary policy and the ample reserves model.  Suggested pre-requisite course: The Federal Reserve System.  This course is an estimated 6 hours of lessons, readings & online programming.

This course covers the Ample Reserves model used in Advanced Placement Macroeconomics courses. It explores how the ample reserves model illustrates current monetary policy and how it can be explained to students in the Advanced Placement Program. This course is an estimated 6 hours of lessons, readings, and online programming. 

This course examines different market structures and how levels of competition influence market forces like prices. This course is an estimated 5 hours of lessons, readings, and online programming.
