Federal Reserve Education highlights three topics to help high school students better understand the issues that directly affect their finances today and in the future. Using the series Page One Economics, students read an article embedded with illustrative charts, graphs and tables that focuses on a topic they can relate to. After completing the reading, teachers can assign a self-grading assessment in most learning management systems like Schoology and Google Classroom that can track student learning with just a few clicks. Most Page One articles and assessments are about 20 to 30 minutes in length.
The most recent article examines how avian flu affected supply and demand in the egg market and how prices adjusted to those economic forces.
The second featured piece weighs the costs and benefits of earning a college degree even amid skyrocketing prices for higher education.
The final reading lays out for students three popular strategies on how to best pay down credit card debt and the tradeoffs that happen with each approach.
