The eyes of the world are turned to North America this summer for the FIFA World Cup.  Fans across the globe pray their national team doesn’t fall into the dreaded “group of death” that may prematurely end their hopes for a chance at the title.  With this new resource from FRE, examine how soccer’s governing body organizes the popular tournament through an economic lens.  In about an hour, creatively introduce concepts like incentives and allocation decisions with this activity designed for middle and high school students.

Federal Reserve Education is also proud to release a new lecture guide designed for AP Macro teachers to easily present the challenging concept of balance of payments to their classes.  Introduce differences between the current and capital account with vocabulary building and examples.  Next, students see how transactions affect the trade balance between nations, the impact on the aggregate demand and supply model, and, finally, the foreign exchange and loanable funds markets.  Practice graphing situations that routinely appear on the AP exam.

Each activity contains all the materials needed including PowerPoint slides and handouts as well as step-by-step instructions for teachers to follow.  Assessments and reinforcement activities are also provided as part of the resource.
