Plant the seed in your student's mind that economic growth is not something that just naturally occurs with this interactive module. In order to understand how an economy expands, students will be introduced to the basic definition of growth, how to calculate it using real gross domestic product data, and how the concept of productivity can serve as a major influence in bringing about economic expansion.
Have your class analyze data with embedded graphs from FRED® to see how real GDP is reported by the Bureau of Economic Analysis and how that data can be viewed in multiple ways to tell a story of the direction of the U.S. economy. Students will also learn how technology and human capital can contribute to both increase personal wealth and have a positive impact on others.
This resource is designed for high school students to complete in approximately 40 minutes and comes with a self-grading multiple-choice assessment that can be easily added to major learning management systems like Canvas, Google Classroom, Schoology, Blackboard and D2L Brightspace. This tutorial will help teachers get started.
