Federal Reserve Education presents a new module that tells the story of Nina and her dream to attend the concert of a lifetime, only to be faced with the hard reality of making tough choices because of her lack of financial planning.
Learning from Nina, high school students are introduced to why having a budget is so important to help plan for the future. The module introduces personal finance skills like categorizing expense types, the difference between gross and net income and how effective saving habits can help create a cushion for when emergency expenses pop up. In approximately 30 minutes, students will engage with audio stories, interactive knowledge checks, and basic budgeting tables to help them prepare for the unexpected.
All FRE modules can easily be added to major learning management systems like Canvas, Google Classroom, Schoology, Blackboard and D2L Brightspace. This tutorial will help teachers get started.
