Fed Clue
Use this exercise as a team or individual activity. Concepts student
will learn include:
- Federal Reserve System functions and objectives
- Functions performed for the Treasury by Federal Reserve Banks
- The policymaking process
- The structure and organization of the Federal Reserve System
- The Federal Reserve's influence on economic activity
- Monetary policy: limitations, advantages
- The Federal Reserve's participation in the payments system
- Monetary policy instruments used by the Federal Reserve
- Financial regulation and supervision
Playing the game:
1. Teacher divides students into teams of 3-5 each or assigns the game
as an individual project.
2. Teacher and student review the rules together.
Rules:
- In the course of this game, students will receive nine sets of questions.
Each set corresponds to a brief text describing an aspect of the Federal
Reserve System.
- Begin the game by clicking on ACCEPT MISSION.
- Select one or several sections or select "entire mission"
for all sections.
- Play will be timed -- each section has a time limit of 10 minutes.
- Students' scores will be tallied as they answer each question. They
will not be allowed to change an answer but can play as many times as
they like to try to beat their score.
- A maximum of 100 points is available for each of the nine sections.
So the maximum number of points attainable is 900.
3. Students may play the game as a homework assignment or in the classroom
individually or in teams.
4. At the end of the game, an overall score will be provided and students
can print their scorecard to document the assignment.
